As I google my way around the millions of pages and images splattered across the www, it quickly becomes apparent that there are many of us out there looking for nest-box information. For example: What’s the best wood to use.. how thick should it be.. is it safe to use glue or should we just stick with nails and/or screws? 🤔
I don’t think that one answer fits all and for many of us it’s about what we have available at the time. As long as our masterpieces are not harmful to their guests, then in my opinion, get creative and crack on!
My first nest-box was produced from the diagram on the right and using a B&Q plank, 150cm (6″ x ¾”) I cut the pieces using a mitre saw, screwed them together, stapled the rubber to the back and roof and lastly, drilled the drainage holes and a 25mm (1″) (not 32mm) entrance.
We opened for business on March 2nd and after 3 days, our first lodgers had moved in – Blue-tits!
